Amapiano grew out of the townships of Gauteng, South Africa in the early 2010s — a slow, soulful cousin of deep house that took a decade to travel from Katlehong and Soweto street parties to global festival stages, carried by names like Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa. Its signature sound isn't a drum machine at all: the log drum, widely credited to producer Mdu aka TRP, is a synthesized bass-percussion hybrid — a deep, rounded knock that plays melodies.
That double role is what makes amapiano production different. The log drum is both the bassline and the groove: sparse, syncopated phrases that leave huge gaps of air, landing between the kick rather than on it. Everything else — soft kicks, brushed claps, shakers — exists to frame that space, not fill it.
This kit ships five log drums tuned to A, C, D, E and G, enough for pentatonic-flavored lines in most keys, plus a slide for the runs between notes. The kick is deliberately soft and clicky so the logs own the low end, and the brushed clap, wood percs and two shakers handle the 112 BPM shuffle on top.

What exactly is a log drum in amapiano?

What BPM is amapiano?
Almost always 110–115 BPM. This kit suggests 112. The tempo is slow enough to feel relaxed but the constant shaker sixteenths keep it dancing.
How do I write a log drum bassline?
Less is more: short syncopated phrases that mostly avoid the downbeat, built from three or four of the tuned notes, with room for each hit's tail to ring out. Try writing the phrase in the second half of the bar and leaving the first half to the kick and shakers.
