Rage crystallized around 2020–21, when Playboi Carti's Whole Lotta Red — with producers like F1lthy of Working on Dying — and Trippie Redd's Trip at Knight turned a strain of Pi'erre Bourne-style synth trap into something louder and more euphoric: blaring, distorted synth leads, simple bouncing 808 patterns, and an energy closer to a mosh pit than a trap house.
The production signature is controlled clipping. The synths and 808s are pushed past their headroom on purpose, but the drum patterns underneath stay almost naive — bouncy, repetitive, hypnotic. Tempos run hot, roughly 150–170 BPM in half-time, and arrangement is minimal: two or three elements at full intensity beat ten at moderate volume.

Should I add more distortion to these 808s?
They're already clipped or wavefolded at the source, so start clean and push gently — a limiter or soft clipper on the master usually finishes the job. If you want more, distort the whole drum bus together so the grit glues instead of stacking.
